Volunteer Committees

​Our deepest thanks to our New Mexico International School parent volunteers who head up our Committees for the donation of their time and efforts. Parent involvement is an integral part of success of NMIS. If you are interested in joining a committee, click on the committee name below to contact the chaiperson via email.

School Advisory Committee (SAC)

Chair: Mr. & Mrs. Garcia
Co-Chair: Nancy Abeyta

The School Advisory Committee (SAC) coordinates and oversees various school events and programs of the school.  It also provides voice to the school community to express specific concerns.

Library Committee

Chair: Kate Cunningham

The library committee runs the school library/media center.  It provides at least one volunteer on campus anytime a classroom has regular library hours.  Volunteers oversee library inventory and use library management software.

Promotes the donating of items for the NMIS student library and maintains a library management system. Also coordinates team of volunteers to manage library during weekly visits by classrooms. Two subcommittees (Scholastic and Usborne) coordinate book fairs and book orders to raise funds that go towards school library purchases.

Yearbook Committee

Chair: Anna Martinez

Acquires vendors for the production and distribution of the NMIS School Yearbook. Also researches professional photographers for school photos and makes recommendation to Head of School.

This committee is comprised of:

  • One SAC member
  • At least one parent volunteer
Maintenance & Operations Committee

To volunteer, contact the NMIS Operations AssistantVolunteers Needed!

This committee completes maintenance tasks assigned by the Operations Manager.  These tasks range from painting and minor repairs to electrical and plumbing work.

This committee is comprised of:

  • 1-3 parent volunteers that have relevant skills to repair items throughout the facility
    After School Program Committee

    Chair: Volunteer Needed! 

    Solicits potential after school program providers in the community.  Decides on calendar of offerings and builds schedule. Also develops sign up process for NMIS parents to enroll.

    This committee is comprised of at least one NMIS parent volunteer with basic knowledge of youth programs available in the community

    Lunch Volunteer Committee

    To volunteer, contact the NMIS ReceptionistVolunteers Needed!

    Volunteers assist in distribution of the catered hot lunches during student lunch periods (Just 2 hours a week!). Continuation of catered lunch services is contingent upon this committee being staffed.

    This committee is comprised of:

    • 1-5 parent volunteers to be present on campus during student lunch each day of the week. (One volunteer is needed each day of the week).

    The below chart details how various committees relate to other committees in the school, as well as to whom the volunteer or committee reports.  Green committees are NMIS staff members only while blue committees are open to volunteer participation.  Note that all volunteers that are on campus during school hours are required to have a current NMIS Volunteer Clearance.  See subsequent pages for details on the roles of each of these volunteers and committees.
